Mars Exploration Rovers
The Mars Exploration Rovers, consisting of Spirit and Opportunity, were a pair of robotic rovers sent to Mars to explore the Martian surface and geology. Their primary mission was to search for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils that hold clues to past water activity on Mars. These rovers significantly expanded our understanding of Mars' history, potential for past habitability, and the possibility of finding evidence of past life. The data collected has been instrumental in shaping future Mars missions and our overall understanding of the red planet.
